MetaRank:OPTIMISE
Once we know the objectives of a website, we can recommend and make changes to optimise a website for search engines.

This may only need a light touch, with a heading or title changed here or there. On occasion a page will need to be rewritten, keeping the message the same, but presenting it in a way visitors and search engines will find easier to use.

When you have an optimised site, then you can consider the next MetaRank stage, submitting the site to search engines.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Based on the recommendations from our review of your website, we will make those changes to your site that will make the site easier to navigate and use, and thus more easily indexed by search engines, including:

Metatags - the hidden code in the header of each web page that informs search engines and directories the purpose and functionality of your website - we wil ensure that this is appropriate to the content on the page and relevant to your overall objectives

Titles - any titles used on pages should be clear and provide signposts to the structure of your page content - we recommend using the traditional HTML header tags (<H1> and so on), using stylesheets to control their look rather than DIV tags

Content - unless you are showing detailed photographs or technical drawings, the most important element of your web page is the text - this should be well written copy using language appropriate to the target audience (i.e. technical terms are fine on a website for engineers but less so for general consumers) - multli-lingual sites offer different challenges, and should always be translated by people who understand the language and cultural context in which the site will be seen and used

Links & Navigation - almost as important as the content on your site, is the way you link pages together - there are four main link techniques: neighbourhood links (move horizontally within a site); top links (move straight up, e.g. home page); index links (go to detail level regardless of current position, such a product page); and lastly off-site links (which link to a different wesbite) - using a combination of all techniques produces the greatest perception of navigation ease and general satisfaction

How do people search on the web?
There are several ways to find information on the web:

Search Engines
Most straight-forward: type a phrase and click, get a ranked list and click yoru choice. e.g.: Google and Ask Jeeves.

Portals
The 'one-stop shop' approach; offering links to every topic they can think of. e.g.: MSN and Excite.

Directories
Editors organise and describe websites in structured categories, so you can search or browse. e.g.: DMOZ and looksmart
